Nature is in a constant cycle of birth and decay. It is no wonder that this relationship inspires
artists in their creations. Nature is
the essence of the world we belong to, and, as humans, we draw inspiration from
its natural progression. This recurring
cycle of birth and decay is seen in nature, man-made materials, and synthetic
substances. Artists are drawing from
this sequence because these materials have had some form of a purposeful life
prior to their current uses in aesthetic creations. Whether the material once grew naturally or
was created through a chemical process, these objects are being reinvented.
RE: Purposed begs the question, can humans of this world
escape this cycle, or are they forever destined to utilize the natural world in
the creation of “new” works? Is any
material that is being used actually new or, rather, some form of a reimagined
medium? RE: Purposed takes the viewer
through the progression of life through the use of several types of artistic
expression. This show portrays nature’s
cycle of birth and decay through reused materials, whether they are derived
from the Earth, man, or synthetic substances.
