Virtual Exhibition- Alicia Skeath

"Foot Steps"
Having existed for thousands of years, prostheses or the Greek word prĂ³sthesis, meaning addition, application, or attachment, are the devices created in order to take the place of a missing limb. Foot Steps presents a chronological timeline of key lower limb prosthetics, with a focus on their technological advancements throughout history. The progression of time, innovation from craftsmen, modification of materials, and the demands of war victims all worked to shape the overall appearance and functionality of these displayed prosthetic devices.
This exhibit demonstrates experimentation with materials, such as bronze, iron, copper, wood, leather, polycarbonates, plastics and resin in the construction of lower limb prostheses throughout the course of their prosthetic development. From peg legs of pirates to high tech running legs, over time these prosthetic legs evolved from simple tools into the cutting edge technology of today.
Despite cosmetic differences between the various displayed prostheses in Foot Steps, they all serve the same purpose of supplying the user with a functional limb.
This exhibition not only works to showcase significant moments of development throughout the history of lower limb prosthetics, but as well as the never-ending strive for constant  improvement.

My virtual exhibition focused on displaying a historical timeline of prosthetics and were displayed in a chronological order in the gallery.
